Discover the Unusual: Our Favourite Strange and Unique Houseplants
Looking for something a little different for your houseplant collection?
We've rounded up some of our favourite strange and unusual houseplants that we'd love to add to our collection.
These unique beauties are either rare or have unusual qualities that we think make them special.
Alocasia Black Velvet
The Alocasia Black Velvet is a showstopper with its almost black, velvety leaves. The rich, dark foliage makes it a striking addition to any plant collection, adding a touch of elegance and mystery.
Living Stones - Lithops
I've always been fascinated by Lithops, also known as Living Stones. These unique succulents mimic the appearance of pebbles, blending seamlessly into their surroundings. They're a perfect example of nature's ingenuity.
Slipper Orchid (Paphiopedilum henryanum)
The Slipper Orchid is a delicate beauty with its uniquely shaped blooms resembling a slipper. It has flecks of lime-green with dark spots and a bright pink pouch which is yellow on the inside. We love it because the flowers last a very long time. It's pretty small and has a clump of evergreen leaves.
Moss Balls (Marimo)
Moss Balls, or Marimo, are complete spheres of green algae. Marimo actually means Seaweed Ball in Japanese, where they're usually found. They're water plants, so you'll need to keep them in water or a fish tank aquatic environments. But how cute and fuzzy!
Aglaonema 'Cocomelon'
My new favorite plant, the Aglaonema comes in such a brilliant range of colours. But the 'Cocomelon,' is a stunner. With vibrant pink veining and pink stems. It's hard to even find a picture of it!
Syngonium White Butterfly
The Syngonium White Butterfly has become quite popular recently, and it's easy to see why. Its arrow-shaped leaves are flecked with white, adding a delicate and airy feel to the plant.
It's almost 80% white. It may start off green but turns a bright white. It grows quite quickly too.
Monstera adansonii variegata
The Monstera adansonii variegata is a true marvel with its lace-like, hole-filled leaves. This cascading plant is even more special with its striking white variegation, making it a standout piece in any collection.
Pilea Mollis Moonvalley
The Pilea Mollis Moonvalley has a unique quilted look to its leaves, reminiscent of corrugated metal. Its deeply textured foliage is a tactile delight and adds an interesting dimension to your plant display.
Monstera Variegata
The Monstera Variegata is a rare and stunning plant that grows easily in your home. Like its relative, the classic Swiss Cheese Plant, it boasts large, split leaves, but with beautiful white variegation that makes it truly special.
Black ZZ Plant
While the green ZZ Plant is commonly found, the Black ZZ Plant offers a darker, more dramatic alternative. Its glossy, almost black leaves are a striking contrast to typical houseplants and will look moody and amazing in a corner of your home or office.
