The Devil's Ivy or Pothos (Epipremnum or Scindapsus) one of our favourites is a quick-growing, easy-care plant.
Its name Devil's Ivy is believed to originate from being almost impossible to kill! But far from being devilish, this refined air-purifying plant is a very friendly houseplant and suitable for plant newbies.
Golden Pothos (Epipremnum aureum) originates from tropical Southeast Asia and Pacific Islands, thriving as an easy-care houseplant known for its trailing vines with gold-splashed green leaves.
Pothos Care Guide
-
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light but tolerates low light; avoid harsh direct sun to prevent leaf scorch.
-
Watering: Water thoroughly when the topsoil feels dry, letting excess drain; overwatering causes yellow leaves.
-
Soil: Well-draining potting mix is ideal, handling various soil types.
-
Temperature: Happy in average room temperatures, keep away from cold drafts.
-
Humidity: Appreciates higher humidity but does fine in normal home conditions.
-
Fertiliser: Feed a weak, balanced fertiliser monthly during growing seasons (spring/summer).
-
Pruning: Trim vines to maintain size and shape; cuttings root easily in water.
-
Toxicity: Mildly toxic to pets and humans if ingested, so keep out of reach.
-
Tips for Success: Feel the soil before watering, let 2 to 3 cm of top soil to dry out before watering. Yellow Leaves: Often a sign of overwatering; adjust watering habits.
-
Propagation: Easily propagated from stem cuttings placed in water.
