Alocasia Mix
f you’re looking for a bold tropical plant with striking leaves and plenty of personality, an Alocasia Mix is a fantastic choice. Each plant may vary slightly, but Alocasias are loved for their dramatic foliage, sculptural stems, and beautiful leaf shapes, from arrow-like leaves to glossy, textured, or patterned varieties. They’re perfect for adding a lush jungle feel to a bright indoor space.
Origin: Alocasias are native to tropical and subtropical regions of Asia and eastern Australia, where they grow in warm, humid environments beneath the forest canopy. Many popular houseplant varieties have been cultivated for their unique foliage, compact growth, and dramatic indoor appeal.
Care Guide
Light: Alocasia plants enjoy bright, indirect light. Good light helps keep growth strong and foliage looking its best, but avoid harsh direct midday sun, which can scorch the leaves. Too little light may slow growth or cause the plant to become leggy.
Watering: Keep the soil lightly moist, but never soggy. Water when the top inch or two of soil feels dry, making sure excess water drains away fully. Alocasias dislike sitting in wet compost, but they also don’t like being left completely dry for long periods. Reduce watering in winter when growth naturally slows.
Temperature & Humidity: Alocasias love warmth and humidity, so keep them away from cold draughts, chilly windowsills, and radiators. They will appreciate extra humidity from a pebble tray, humidifier, or a naturally humid room such as a bright bathroom.
Feeding: Feed once a month during spring and summer with a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser. No feeding is needed during winter while growth naturally slows.
Toxicity: Important! Like other Alocasias, Alocasia plants are toxic to cats, dogs, and humans if ingested. They contain calcium oxalate crystals, which can cause irritation to the mouth and digestive tract, so keep them away from curious pets and children.
It’s a striking tropical plant—perfect if you want something bold, leafy, and full of dramatic character.
