Monstera deliciosa On a Moss pole

Monstera deliciosa is easily our most popular resident. Often called the 'Swiss Cheese Plant' because of those iconic holes, or fenestrations, in the leaves.

In the wild, it’s a bit of a climber, using its aerial roots to scramble up rainforest trees to reach the sunlight. Bringing one into your home adds an instant bit of tropical drama to any corner.

• Native to the tropical rainforests of Southern Mexico and Central America.

Care Guide

• Light: It thrives in bright, indirect light. A spot near a window with a sheer curtain is brilliant. Avoid harsh, direct midday sun, as it can scorch those lovely leaves.

• Watering: Don't let it sit in a puddle! Wait until the top two inches of soil have dried out before giving it a proper soak. In the winter, you can reduce watering a bit more.

• Humidity: Being a jungle native, it loves a bit of moisture in the air. Give the leaves a regular misting or keep it in a naturally humid room like a bathroom or kitchen.

• Feeding: During the growing season (spring and summer), use a liquid seaweed or balanced fertiliser about once a month.

• Support: As it grows, it will appreciate a moss pole to climb. This mimics its natural habitat and helps the leaves grow even larger.

• Maintenance: Dust the leaves occasionally with a damp cloth. This doesn't just keep it looking posh; it helps the plant breathe and photosynthesise properly.

A quick heads-up: Monstera leaves can be mildly toxic if nibbled by curious cats or dogs, so it’s best kept on a sturdy plant stand out of reach of your furry friends.
