The Spider plant (Chlorophytum comosum) is another houseplant that is perfect for beginners.
A native of South Africa it is really easy to care for. With its long dangling leaves, the Spider Plant is great for putting up high on a shelf or hanging around your home.
We love the spider plant for its long slender stripy leaves and fountain-like appearance.
Mature Spider plants will produce little plantlets and these can just be snipped off to make new plants!
Plant care tips for Spider plants:
- Keep your Spider plant out of direct sunlight. If you notice the leaves getting pale, then make sure you give it a good water.
- Spider plants prefer moist (but not soggy) soil.
- Be sure to have good drainage holes to allow excess water to escape and so that roots are not sitting in stagnant water as they will rot.
- If you notice the leaf tips turning brown, then it may be because your room is too warm. You can also try watering it with rain water instead of tap water.
- If you find brown streaks on the leaves in winter then remove unsightly leaves and reduce your watering.
