The 'Aloe Tiki Tahi' is an Aloe hybrid cultivar developed by the modern Dutch family company TikiPlant from their own breeding programs. Its parent species are native to arid regions across Africa, Madagascar, and the Arabian Peninsula. It is a registered variety of Gonialoe variegata. It is popular for its distinctive striped leaves and low-maintenance, drought-tolerant nature, making it a great indoor plant for beginners.

Aloe Care Guide

'Aloe Tiki Tahi' is a relatively fuss-free plant that thrives on a bit of neglect.

  • Light: Place it in a location with plenty of bright, indirect sunlight. While it can tolerate some direct sun, avoid prolonged exposure to harsh midday sun which can scorch the leaves. A sunny windowsill is an ideal spot.
  • Water: As a succulent, it stores water in its fleshy leaves and is highly sensitive to overwatering. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Water thoroughly, then let all excess water drain away. Avoid letting water sit in the rosette to prevent rot. Reduce watering frequency significantly during the winter months when the plant's growth slows down.
  • Soil: Use a well-draining cactus or succulent soil mix. You can improve standard potting soil by adding materials like perlite or vermiculite to enhance drainage.
  • Temperature & Humidity: It prefers warm, dry air and thrives in typical indoor temperatures. Protect it from frost, as it should not be kept in temperatures below 10°C. Doesn't need misting.
  • Fertiliser: Feed sparingly with a diluted, quality liquid plant food or a potassium-rich organic fertiliser once a month during its active growing season in spring and summer. There is no need to fertilise in winter.
  • Potting: Due to their root structure, which tends to grow outwards rather than down, they do well in a shallow, wide pot with drainage holes. Repot when the plant becomes rootbound or roughly once a year to refresh the soil.
  • Toxic: Mildly toxic to cats and dogs
