Spider plant Care Guide
- Light: Bright, indirect light is best; avoid harsh, direct sun, but they can tolerate lower light (though growth slows).
- Watering: Water thoroughly when the top few inches of soil are dry; allow excess water to drain. Reduce watering in winter.
- Soil: Well-draining potting mix is ideal, with options like peat-based mixes with perlite.
- Temperature: Average room temperatures are perfect; protect from cold drafts and frost.
- Humidity: Tolerate dry air but appreciate higher humidity; misting can help prevent brown tips.
- Feeding: Feed with a weak liquid fertilizer monthly during spring and summer; stop in fall and winter.
- Repotting: Repot every few years when roots fill the pot, choosing a pot with drainage.
- Propagation: When spiderettes form on their stems, you can root them to create new plants. Place a baby plant on damp potting mix or in water until roots form, then plant in its own pot.
- Brown tips: Often caused by dry air, fluoride in tap water, or inconsistent watering; switch to distilled/rainwater or increase humidity.
- Pruning: Trim brown tips or faded flowers; cut off spiderettes to propagate.
- Non-toxic safe for dog and cats
