The Asparagus Fern (like Asparagus setaceus) originates from Southern Africa and Asia, known for its feathery foliage, and is actually a member of the lily family, not a true fern. This houseplant loves bathrooms or east-facing windows.
Asparagus Care Guide
- Light: Bright, indirect light is best; direct sun scorches, too little causes yellowing/dropping. East-facing windows are ideal.
- Water: Keep soil moist but allow the top inch or two to dry between waterings; avoid soggy roots to prevent rot. Reduce water in winter.
- Humidity: High humidity is preferred; mist regularly, place in bathrooms, or use a pebble tray.
- Temperature: Average room temperatures) are fine; avoid cold drafts and temperatures below 13°C.
- Soil: Well-draining, loamy soil is key; add perlite to standard potting mix for drainage.
- Feeding: Use a weak liquid fertiliser during the growing season (spring/summer).
- Toxicity: Berries are toxic, and the plant can irritate skin; keep away from pets and children
