Stromanthe - Triostar

If you’re looking for a colourful houseplant with elegant, tropical flair, the Stromanthe Triostar is a stunning choice. Its long, graceful leaves are beautifully streaked with shades of cream, green, and soft pink, with rich rosy-purple undersides that add even more colour as the leaves move and catch the light. It’s perfect for adding a bright, decorative touch to a warm, well-lit room.

Origin: Stromanthe sanguinea is native to the tropical rainforests of Brazil, where it grows in warm, humid conditions beneath the forest canopy. The ‘Triostar’ variety is loved for its striking variegated foliage and naturally elegant growth habit.

Care Guide

Light: Stromanthe Triostar enjoys bright, indirect light. Good filtered light helps maintain its pink, cream, and green variegation, but avoid direct sun, which can scorch the pale leaves. Too little light may reduce the colour and contrast in the foliage.

Watering: Keep the soil lightly moist, but never soggy. Water when the top inch of soil begins to feel dry, using room-temperature water where possible. Stromanthe can be sensitive to chemicals in tap water, so rainwater, filtered water, or water left to stand overnight is ideal. Reduce watering slightly in winter.

Temperature & Humidity: It loves warmth and humidity, so keep it away from cold draughts, chilly windowsills, and radiators. Higher humidity will help prevent crispy leaf edges, so a humidifier, pebble tray, or bright bathroom spot can work beautifully.

Feeding: Feed once a month during spring and summer with a diluted balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser. No feeding is needed during winter while growth naturally slows.

Toxicity: Good news! Stromanthe Triostar is generally considered non-toxic to cats, dogs, and humans. However, it’s still best to discourage pets or children from chewing the leaves, as any plant material can cause mild stomach upset.

It’s a beautiful, decorative plant—perfect if you want something colourful, elegant, and full of tropical charm.
