Curio Ficoides Blues
If you’re looking for a sculptural succulent with cool, silvery-blue colour, Curio ficoides ‘Blues’ is a beautiful choice. Its upright, finger-like leaves have a soft blue-grey tone that gives it a calm, modern look, making it perfect for bright windowsills, sunny shelves, or adding contrast to a houseplant collection.
Origin: Curio ficoides, formerly known as Senecio ficoides, is native to South Africa, where it grows in dry, sunny conditions. The ‘Blues’ variety is loved for its striking blue-toned foliage and architectural, upright growth.
Care Guide
Light: Curio ficoides ‘Blues’ loves bright light and will be happiest in a sunny spot. A bright windowsill with plenty of indirect light, or some gentle direct morning or evening sun, is ideal. Too little light may cause the plant to stretch and lose its compact shape.
Watering: Allow the soil to dry out fully between waterings. As a succulent, it stores water in its fleshy leaves and prefers being kept on the drier side. Water thoroughly, then let excess drain away completely. Reduce watering significantly in winter.
Temperature & Humidity: It enjoys normal household warmth and prefers a dry, airy spot rather than high humidity. Keep it away from cold draughts and protect it from frost. Avoid placing it in very humid rooms, as this can encourage rot.
Feeding: Feed once a month during spring and summer with a diluted cactus or succulent fertiliser. No feeding is needed during winter while growth naturally slows.
Toxicity: Important! Curio and Senecio plants can be toxic to cats, dogs, and humans if ingested, so keep Curio ficoides ‘Blues’ away from curious pets and children.
It’s a striking, low-maintenance succulent—perfect if you want something architectural, colourful, and easy-going.
