Dizygotheca Elegatissma "Bianca"
If you’re looking for a dramatic houseplant with fine, elegant foliage, Dizygotheca elegantissima is a striking choice. Also known as the False Aralia, it has slender, deeply cut leaves with a delicate, almost lace-like look. New growth often appears in deep bronze or coppery tones before maturing to rich green, giving the plant a beautiful, airy texture and a slightly exotic feel.
Origin: Dizygotheca elegantissima, now often classified as Plerandra elegantissima, is native to New Caledonia in the South Pacific. It naturally grows in warm, humid tropical conditions, which explains its love of steady warmth, good humidity, and gentle filtered light indoors.
Care Guide
Light: Dizygotheca elegantissima enjoys bright, indirect light. Good filtered light helps keep its growth healthy and its foliage looking full, but avoid harsh direct midday sun, which can scorch the delicate leaves. Too little light may cause slower growth or leaf drop.
Watering: Keep the soil lightly moist, but never soggy. Water when the top inch or two of soil feels dry, making sure excess water drains away fully. It doesn’t like sitting wet, but it also prefers not to dry out completely for long periods. Reduce watering slightly in winter.
Temperature & Humidity: It loves warmth and appreciates humidity, so keep it away from cold draughts, chilly windowsills, and radiators. A pebble tray, humidifier, or bright bathroom spot can help keep the leaves looking their best.
Feeding: Feed once a month during spring and summer with a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser. No feeding is needed during winter while growth naturally slows.
Toxicity: Dizygotheca elegantissima may be mildly toxic if ingested and can cause irritation or stomach upset, so it’s best kept away from curious pets and children.
It’s a graceful, architectural plant—perfect if you want something elegant, unusual, and full of fine texture.
