Ficus Elastica Belize
If you’re looking for a bold, leafy houseplant with glossy statement foliage, a Ficus elastica Mix is a fantastic choice. Also known as the Rubber Plant, each plant may vary slightly in colour and pattern, with varieties ranging from deep glossy green to burgundy, cream, pink, or softly variegated leaves. It’s perfect for adding structure, height, and a stylish tropical feel to a bright indoor space.
Origin: Ficus elastica is native to tropical regions of South and Southeast Asia, including India, Nepal, Myanmar, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Many popular indoor varieties have been cultivated for their attractive foliage, strong upright growth, and ability to adapt well to home environments.
Care Guide
Light: Ficus elastica plants enjoy bright, indirect light. Variegated varieties will keep their colours best in brighter spots, while darker-leaved types can tolerate slightly lower light. Avoid harsh direct midday sun, which can scorch the leaves, especially on paler varieties.
Watering: Allow the top couple of inches of soil to dry out before watering. Ficus elastica prefers a thorough drink followed by time to dry slightly, rather than sitting in wet compost. Reduce watering in winter when growth naturally slows.
Temperature & Humidity: It enjoys normal household warmth and should be kept away from cold draughts, open windows, and radiators. It usually copes well in average indoor humidity, though an occasional leaf wipe will help keep the glossy foliage looking fresh and dust-free.
Feeding: Feed once a month during spring and summer with a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser. No feeding is needed during winter while growth naturally slows.
Toxicity: Important! Like other Ficus plants, Ficus elastica is toxic to cats, dogs, and humans if ingested. Its milky sap can also irritate skin, so keep it away from curious pets and children and wash hands after pruning or handling damaged leaves.
It’s a stylish, reliable houseplant—perfect if you want something leafy, glossy, and architectural with plenty of variety.
