Maranta Leuconeura, a stunning foliage plant with vibrant leaves. This variety of Maranta boasts striking patterns and colours, adding a touch of elegance to any indoor space. With its low maintenance needs and air-purifying qualities, it's the perfect choice for plant lovers and beginners alike.
Maranta Care Guide
- Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves and cause the vibrant colours to fade. It can tolerate lower light, making it versatile for indoor spaces.
- Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water when the top inch or two of soil feels dry to the touch. Using filtered or lukewarm rainwater is recommended, as the plant is sensitive to the minerals and chlorine in hard tap water, which can cause brown leaf tips.
- Humidity: This plant thrives in high humidity. Increase humidity by misting regularly, using a pebble tray with water, or placing a humidifier nearby. Brown leaf edges are a common sign of insufficient humidity.
- Temperature: Maintain a consistent indoor temperature. It is sensitive to cold, so protect it from drafts, air conditioning vents, and heaters.
- Soil: Use a well-draining, peat-based potting mix that is rich in organic matter and slightly acidic. Mixing standard houseplant soil with perlite or orchid bark can improve drainage and aeration.
- Fertiliser: Feed with a balanced, water-soluble liquid fertiliser diluted to half-strength every 4-6 weeks during the spring and summer growing seasons. Reduce or cease feeding in the fall and winter.
- Pruning/Repotting: Prune yellow or damaged leaves to encourage healthy, bushy growth. Repot every 1-2 years in spring into a pot with drainage holes that is only one size larger than the previous one.
- Non-Toxic: Safe for homes with cats and dogs
Sold without a decorative pot, size and colour may vary slightly.
