Chlorophytum comosum “Bonnie” is a quirky relative of the classic Spider Plant. While the traditional variety has long, straight blades, 'Bonnie' has these wonderful, tight curls and swirls—think of it as a Spider Plant that’s just stepped out of a high-end salon with a fresh perm.

Origin: Naturally, the species hails from Southern Africa. However, this specific curly cultivar is a result of selective breeding to keep that compact, spiralled look.

Indoor Care Guide:

  • Light: She’s not too fussy but prefers bright, indirect light. Direct midday sun through a window can scorch those lovely variegated leaves, while too much shade might cause her curls to go a bit limp.
  • Watering: Aim for consistency. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch. They don't like "wet feet" (sitting in water), so ensure your pot has good drainage.

  • Humidity: They aren't divas, but they do enjoy a misting now and then or a spot in a slightly humid room like a bathroom or kitchen.

  • Feeding: A bit of liquid fertiliser once a month during the spring and summer will keep those "spiderettes" (the little babies) popping out.

  • Temperature: Standard UK household temperatures are spot on. Just keep her away from icy draughts in the winter.

  • Toxicity:  Pet Friendly: Brilliant news—she’s non-toxic to cats and dogs.

  • A Note for Cat Owners: Cats often find the dangling babies irresistible and might try to chew them. While not poisonous, it can cause a mild upset stomach if they overindulge, so maybe hang her up high!

She’s a fantastic choice for a hanging basket because those curls look stunning cascading over the side.
